Corporate support of Friends of Rye Nature Center continues to be a major resource. New partnerships with JetBlue and Morgan Stanley were forged in 2010. Con Edison continued to be a partner, providing a grant for the FRNC to develop programming with the Rye Youth Council. This program gave middle-school students the opportunity to be outside after school and create videos on pertinent environmental topics.
In March, the FRNC closed the nature center for a two-week period so that the design and construction team from HomeWorks Inc. could reinvigorate our visitor center. The results of the renovation are a refreshed space that is functional and inviting to the community. The animal displays were redesigned, allowing the public to better view our live collection.
On April 6, 2011, Whole Foods Market White Plains graciously donated 5% of their net earnings to our organization, as part of their 5% Day Benefiting program. The funds that amounted are enough to provide two weeks of naturalist-led programming during our summer outreach programs to 100 children.
The high quality programming that FRNC is known for wouldn't be possible without help from local organzations and foundations such as The Westchester Community Foundation, The Little Garden Club of Rye, Rye Garden Club, and The Women's Club of Rye Children's Philanthropy.
