Rye Nature Center will host a day-long session for educators
on Project WET. Project WET, or Water Education for Teaches is Project WET is
committed to global water education that is implemented at the community level.
After attending the workshop, teachers in all disciplines will be able to use these award winning curricular materials with their classes. Project WET is for teachers K through 12 and other educators and youth leaders.
The centerpiece of the Project WET program is the Project WET Curriculum and Activity Guide. It is only available by attending a workshop. This 561-page guide is a collection of multidisciplinary water-related activities for ages 5 through 18 that are hands-on, easy to use, and fun! The lessons incorporate a variety of formats, such as large and small group learning, whole-body activities, laboratory investigations, discussion of local and global topics, and community service projects. The guide also features cross-reference and planning charts, a glossary, and background material on activity development and field-testing.
Participants in this course well receive the Project WET Curriculum and Activity Guide. Many of the activities will be modeled during the training session. Hands-on field work will take place at Rye Nature Center's ponds, vernal pools, small streams and Blind Brook.
The workshop will be led by Betsy Ukeritis of NY State Department of Environmental Conservation, who is an Environmental Educator for NYC.
The charge for this program is $10 per person, which includes refreshments, light lunch and additional materials. Participants should dress for out-of-doors activity. The event will be held rain or shine. Pre-registration is required. To register, call 914-967-5150 or e-mail info@ryenaturecenter.org.
