Forest Kindergarten

Take the next step in your child’s naturalist education! Forest Kindergarten utilizes a place-based philosophy as well as student-led activities to promote learning all while having fun exploring the forest. Seasonal projects will challenge children to get creative with natural materials and their surroundings.

This class will be held entirely outside in our outdoor classroom area and the Nature Center grounds, with the exception of extreme weather, wind, or thunderstorms. Children should come equipped with warm/waterproof clothing and footwear every day.

WILD OUTSIDE

Grades 1 and 2
Tuesdays 3:15 - 4:45 PM

This immersive outdoor program challenges participants to use their imagination, energy, tools, and teamwork in order to better understand our local woodlands. This program is ideal for former Preschool Ecology and Forest Kindergarten students as well as children who love to be outdoors!

This class will be held entirely outside in our outdoor classroom area and the Nature Center grounds, with the exception of extreme weather, wind, or thunderstorms. Children should come equipped with warm/waterproof clothing and footwear every day.

Wilderness Encounters

Grades 3 and 4
Tuesdays 3:15-4:45

This program is designed to encourage children’s connection with the natural world and nurture their curiosities. Children will build on their knowledge of basic tool use, make more complex tools out of natural materials, practice wilderness skills and foraging basics, and make discoveries in the changing forest.

This class will be held entirely outside in our outdoor classroom area and the Nature Center grounds, with the exception of extreme weather, wind, or thunderstorms. Children should come equipped with warm/waterproof clothing and footwear.

Environmental Science club

Grades 5 and 6 meet Tuesdays
Grades 7 and 8 meet Thursdays

3:15 - 4:45 PM

Join Henry Myers for a seasonal exploration of Rye Nature Center. Weekly sessions will tackle local environmental problems as well as teach students to become better stewards of the earth.

Activities will include survival skills, American eel monitoring, box turtle tracking, animal care, and much more!

Pre-registration required. Snacks included!
