Henry Myers: Aquatic Investigator
With the temperatures rising and the April showers returning water to our ponds, aquatic exploration is in full swing. For our school groups, public programs, and preschoolers, this generally involves taking some nets down to the pond or brook. Whether scooping, straining, or going straight for the big bull frogs, these explorations offer children of all ages a brand-new perspective on what lies beneath our calm waters.
Environmental Educator, Henry Myers, has been experimenting with an entirely new way to capture these pond critters (for brief observation) and captivate us all with his findings.
The video above showcases two of the larger invertebrates that can be found in the muck, a crawfish and a fairy shrimp. If you’re the type of explorer who would like to discover underwater landscapes, but don’t have any fancy equipment, you’re in luck! Henry’s setup only consists of two major components, and the expensive one you already own: a phone for taking footage and a small fish tank. Without further ado, we hope you enjoy the following video showcasing Henry’s technique!
